Irish supermarket SuperValu held a Spanish Wine Fair recently. It was fascinating because it broke many of the norms for a supermarket tasting.

  • It had both suppliers and winemakers in attendance.
  • All of the wines were premium.

The WinePod spoke with SuperValu Wine Buyer, Kevin O'Callaghan, at the Fair.

In addition we were joined by Felix Solis who showed us his la Unica whose every bottle has a unique hand-painted label and is a selection of the best wines from Pagos del Rey (Rioja), Olmedillo de Roa (Burgos) and Morales de Toro (Zamora). Extraordinary.

Carmen Puche from Bodegas Castano told us all about her wines from the fabulous region of Yecla in Murcia.

Mick O'Connell MW was on hand to tell us all about some high end wines from Bodegas Torres while Pablo Sampedro guided us through the Basque region of Rioja Alavesa with his Finca Labarca and Pago de Labarca wines from Bodegas Covila.

Finally, Raquel Santalaya showed us the fabulous 500 Manos from Carinena.

Enjoy these stories from across the amazing vineyards of Spain!
